KW1 CUBE Kwikset Smartkey Decoder and Reset Tool. LockTech’s KW1 Cube resets or decodes KW1 SmartKey cylinders when no key is available. 

Sometimes simply resetting a smart key lock to a known key is the most efficient option, however there are also times when decoding the lock in hand can save a lot of time when there are other locks on the job site that use the same key bitting. With that in mind, we designed a tool that was equally effective at resetting and decoding. Instructions: pdf

Instructions for using The Cube.
KW1 RESETTING
Step 1 Insert the KW1 Smart key cylinder into the Cube
fully. Looking through the sidebar window, center the
sidebar so that the sidebar is not contacting the left-side
wall nor right-side wall. Pic 1
Step 2 Insert the Reset Comb gently until it contacts the
wafers. Pic 2 At this point you will either feel light
spring pressure or a solid stop. If you feel a solid stop,
slightly rotate the cylinder clockwise and/or
counterclockwise while lightly pressing in and out on
the Reset Comb. Once you feel the wafer springs
compress you should see the side bar start to drop
down. Once the sidebar drops down, use the decoding
probe or any other pointed object to hold down the
sidebar. Remove the Reset Comb and rotate the
cylinder clockwise 90 degrees.
Step 3 At this point remove the cylinder from the Cube.
Using the supplied Wafer Reset Tool to insert into the
reset hole and “set” the cylinder for a new key. If the
cylinder reset chamber does not compress, slightly
rotate the cylinder clockwise and counterclockwise
while pressing inward with the reset pin. The reset
chamber should compress and lock in the depressed
position. At this point the cylinder is ready for a new
key, simply insert the key fully and rotate it back to the
12 o’clock position and remove the key. The cylinder
should now be reset to the new key.

KW1 DECODING
Step 1 Insert the KW1 Smart key cylinder into the Cube
fully. From the face of the cylinder, rotate the cylinder
counterclockwise to remove any rotational play. Pic 3

When looking through the Sidebar window, the sidebar
should be on the left side when the front of the cylinder
is facing you.
Step 2 Fully insert the Decoding Probe into position 1 on
the Decode side of the Cube. Count the number of
black indicator marks on the probe that are above the
surface of the Cube and record that number as the
depth for position 1. Pic 3 Black Arrow

Step 3 Repeat this process for positions 2-5. Once you
have finished you can cut a key to operate the lock.


REMOVAL & STORAGE
The Decoder probe and Wafer Reset Tool are held
captive by the Reset Comb.
Step 1 Remove the Reset Comb & Wafer Reset tool by
gripping the Reset Comb on both sides and evenly
pulling outward away from the Cube.
Step 2 Once the Reset Comb has been removed, the
Decoder Probe is free to drop out of its storage
compartment.
